Guidelines for Contributions

RESLA is the annual journal of the Spanish Association of Applied Linguistics (AESLA). It accepts for publication, after favourable reports from two anonymous referees, original scholarly contributions in areas of research related to applied linguistics which fall into one of the ten thematic panels of the association:

  1. Language Learning and Acquisition
  2. Language Teaching
  3. Language for Specific Purposes
  4. Psychology of Language, Child Language and Psycholinguistics
  5. Sociolinguistics
  6. Pragmatics
  7. Discourse Analysis
  8. Corpus Linguistics, Computational Linguistics and Language Engineering
  9. Lexicology and Lexicography
  10. Translation and Interpreting Studies

Proposals for publication may fall under one of the following three categories:

  • Research papers involving empirical investigations, and methodological or theoretical studies (min. 15 and max. 30 pages at double spacing)
  • State of the art reports (min. 15 and max. 30 pages at double spacing)
  • Notes and squibs (max. 6 pages at double spacing)
  • Reviews of recent publications (max. 8 pages at double spacing)
  • Exceptionally and after a positive report by the Advisory Board, contributions which exceed these maximum lengths may be considered for publication in those cases in which their scientific relevance justifies it.

Contributions for publication will be sent to two anonymous referees proposed by the members of the Advisory Board and/or Editorial Board. In order to be accepted for publication in RESLA, contributions should be positively evaluated in relation to the following criteria:

    • Originality and interest concerning the subject-matter, methodology, information, and conclusions of the study.
    • Relevance concerning current research in the field.
    • Knowledge of previous research in the same field.
    • Scientific rigour and depth of analysis.
    • Accuracy in the use of concepts, methods, and terms.
    • Relevance of the theoretical implications of the study.
    • Use of updated bibliography.
    • Correct use of language and correction in the organization of contents and other formal aspects of the text.
    • Clarity, elegance, and conciseness in the exposition.

Evaluation reports will be carried out anonymously within three months from their reception. Once the evaluation process is completed, authors will receive a statement of the editorial decision on their submission together with an anonymous copy of the reviews on which the decision is based. The editorial decision will be considered final. In those cases in which the contributions have not been accepted for publication, the originals will only be returned to the authors under request.

Should any formal or content aspect of the contributions be improved and/or modified, authors will return their revised versions within the deadline established by the Editor. Failing to do so will result in the contribution not being published.

Likewise, authors are responsible for proofreading their contributions and returning the revised versions by the deadline established by the Editor.

Authors warrant that their contributions to RESLA are original and have neither been submitted for publication, nor have been published elsewhere. Once published, AESLA holds the copyright of any contribution to RESLA. In order to re-publish any part of a contribution in any other venue and/or format, authors must ask for written permission to the acting RESLA Editor.

    MONOGRAPHS

RESLA may publish collections of papers on a single subject. These volumes may be requested by any member of the Editorial Board or may stem from the proposal of the members of AESLA. Proponents of a monograph will be considered guest editors of the volume in question. The Editor and the authors of the monographs should be members of AESLA and their CV should include relevant publications within the thematic area of the manuscript.

The proposals will be anonymously evaluated by referees selected by members of the Advisory Board of RESLA. The referees will write a report on the adequacy of the proposals and the members of AESLA will be informed about the selection process during the Annual Assembly.

Monographs will only be co-financed by RESLA.
